
New Regulation on Artificial Intelligence: The AI Act and its Impact on the EU
Regulation 2024/1689: Regulation of Artificial Intelligence in Europe On 12 July 2024, the new Regulation on Artificial Intelligence (AI Act) was published in the Journal of the European Union, which will enter into force in 20 days and will be fully implemented from 2 August 2026.
This regulation seeks to establish harmonized rules for the use of artificial intelligence in the EU, ensuring that such technologies are developed and used in a way that protects the Union's fundamental rights and values.
Key Points of the Regulation
The regulation includes 180 recitals, 113 articles and 13 annexes, which are divided into 13 chapters. Some of the main topics regulated include:

- Classification of High Risk Systems: Chapter 3
- Obligations of Transparency: Chapter 4
- IT Governance Architecture: Chapter 7
Objectives and Effects
This legislation aims to protect citizens from the dangers of artificial intelligence, while at the same time strengthening the European Union's innovation and competitiveness in this field. The provisions of the regulation will be implemented gradually, with some coming into force as early as February 2, 2025.
The AI Regulation represents an important step towards creating a coherent and secure framework for the development and application of AI technologies in the European Union.
